6 Types of Ear Piercings That Do Not Involve Your Lobes
Want to get your ears pierced? Already have lobe piercings? Then it’s time to get a bit more creative with your ear piercings, and at Medical Tattoo Centers of America, we’re here to help you do exactly that.
Below, we’re sharing a few of the many different types of non-lobe ear piercings we can perform in our Blaine, MN medical ear piercing clinic. If you come across a piercing you’re interested in, don’t hesitate to contact our office to set up a free consultation!
Daith Piercing
This piercing lives in the tiny piece of cartilage that sits just behind and slightly above your ear canal. Daith piercings require a highly skilled piercing artist (like ours at MTCOA!) due to their awkward location and the small size of the cartilage where the earring is placed. This can accommodate one to two piercings, depending on its size.
Fun fact about Daiths: These piercings are said to help alleviate migraine headaches, but currently, there’s no scientific evidence to support that claim, just anecdotal reports.
Tragus and Anti-Tragus Piercings
The tragus is the tiny, triangle-shaped flap of cartilage that sits just in front of your ear canal, and that’s exactly where a tragus piercing lives. An anti-tragus piercing, on the other hand, goes into the piece of cartilage that sits across from the tragus, just above the earlobe.
Helix Piercings
You can get multiple types of helix piercings, any of which will sit in the cartilage that forms the upper-outer curve of your ear. Some examples of helix piercings can include:
● Standard helix piercings typically sit inside the middle portion of the upper-outer ear cartilage.
● Flat helix piercings don’t sit right along the edge of the ear’s cartilage like the standard helix. Instead, they sit in the flat portion of cartilage in the upper-outer ear. You can even get multiple flats next to one another for a super-unique look.
● Forward helix piercings sit in the cartilage at front of the ear, along the outer edge, above the tragus.
Snug Piercing
This is one of the most distinctive non-lobe piercings you can get, and it sits in the large piece of cartilage that swoops above your inner ear. You can get a piercing anywhere along this piece of cartilage, and because it’s relatively shallow, it’s best suited to micro-jewelry.
